Continuous professional development for GPs

How to achieve inclusive and sustainable CPD that supports GPs and benefits patients.
CPD activities should support the development of excellent care in general practice, which is far more than just providing additional textbook knowledge. We will describe GPs’ special core competences and how these competences evolve. We will highlight feasible formats and relevant content for CPD and include perspectives on inclusiveness and sustainability. Finally, we will present reflections on how we all can contribute to and optimize our own benefits.
Niels Kristian Kjaer
General practitioner and clinical professor at the Research Unit of General Practice, University of Southern Denmark. Specialist in family medicine with a master’s degree in health professional education from Maastricht University and a PhD in developing medical expertise from the University of Southern Denmark.
Before entering general practice, he worked for ten years at hospitals in Denmark and Sweden and served as district medical officer in Greenland.
His research spans medical education, e-health, and rheumatology, and he has developed numerous educational concepts for medical training.
