We will meet at the so-called “Vinnebroa,” that is, the bridge over the Hamn Canal, between the districts of Öster and Väster. Here, a brief look back will be given at Jönköping during the era of the Swedish Empire. We will then continue via Rådhusparken through the district of Väster. This was the site of medieval Jönköping, founded through royal privileges in 1284 by King Magnus Ladulås. The construction of the castle and fortifications at the beginning of the 17th century led to the destruction of the medieval town. We end the city walk at the uniquely preserved Hospital area, with a few glimpses into healthcare practices of earlier times.

Rosenlund Manor and its rose garden are beautifully situated in a historic cultural setting with a magnificent view of Lake Vättern. Here you will find around 550 different varieties of roses, exotic trees, and beautiful perennial plantings. In 2022, the rose garden was awarded the prestigious international prize “Award of Garden Excellence” — becoming the first rose garden in Sweden ever to receive this distinction. This places Rosenlund among the most remarkable rose gardens in the world. Join us for a guided walk through our award-winning rose garden, where you will learn about its history and flowers.
Afterwards you will be served tea or coffee and the popular Manor sandwich, which consist of homemade bread with hand-peeled shrimp, boiled egg, mayonnaise, and vegetables. If you have any special diet there will be other alternatives. During the “fika” and afterwards it is possible to bring your knitting or other hand craft and socialize with other knitters. Hopefully, some of our local yarn vendors will be able to offer on-site yarn sales, giving you the opportunity to take home a yarn souvenir from the congress.
